Korea Republic men’s U-19 national team have rounded off their trip to Vietnam with a draw and a defeat against their U-23 side last week.
Kim Eunjung’s charges lost 1-0 in a friendly with Vietnam U-23 national team at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi on Friday. Nguyen Van Tung scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time, whilst the visitors were punished for their profligacy despite taking control after the interval – with a crucial effort hitting the woodwork.
Earlier on Tuesday, Korea Republic took the lead through Lee Youngjun after 15 minutes, only for Dang Van Toi to equalise from the spot three minutes later. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho.
Kim’s side had defeated Indonesia’s U-19 national team 5-1 in a friendly in Daegu in March, in the buildup to the preliminary competition for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup that is scheduled to take place in September. With these series of friendlies against the Vietnamese side that are four years older than his charges, Kim was given a precious opportunity to build up the confidence and strengthen the organisation.
The U-19 national team have returned on Sunday, after the two-game friendly series with Vietnam U-23 national team.
