Korea Football Association (KFA) has appointed coach Park Kyunghoon as Chief Execuctive Officer. The newly appointed CEO will take office upon approval of the Executive Committee on 27 January.
On his appointment of Park as the new CEO, KFA President Chung Mong-gyu stated: “He has what it takes to sort out everything happening inside and outside the organisation, with his rational disposition and flexible communication skills. I also think that he is the man who understands KFA’s major projects in the future.”
Park is regarded as the right person for the new role, with his rich experience as player, coach and professor, as well as a unique approach to Korean football from an objective perspective. He was a one-club man for Pohang Steel from 1984 to 1992, whilst representing Korea Republic at two FIFA World Cups – Mexico 1986 and Italy 1990.
After hanging up his boots, Park began his coaching career as senior assistant coach at Jeonnam Dragons in 1994, before taking the reins of Jeju United (2009-2014) and Seongnam FC (2017). His stint at Jeju culminated in 2010, when the islanders stormed into second place of the K League thanks to Park’s signature ‘Orchestra Football’ – making the most of individual strengths in harmony.
Park is also the man who understands the internal affairs of the organisation. He led hosts Korea Republic at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007, before being appointed as a member of the KFA’s Technical Committee in 2017. He has also devoted his career to the development of Korean football, as a professor of the Department of Football at Jeonju University.
